Admission

You may be dropped off at either of the main hospital entrances. Upon entering the hospital lobby, please see the Concierge for directions. An Access Service representative will ask to see your photo ID and insurance card(s), plus ask for any other information that’s needed. You will be asked to sign standard forms, including consent to treatment. Any co-pay that is required by your insurance carrier will be collected at this time.


What to Bring

You may wish to bring the following items from home:


  • pajamas, robe and slippers
  • eyeglasses, dentures and hearing aids
  • toothpaste and toothbrush
  • comb, hairbrush, shampoo, deodorant, soap
  • razor and shaving cream
  • notebook, pen or pencil
  • phone numbers of your family and friends
  • list of medications you take—do not bring your medicines from home
  • list of any allergies you may have


ATM

ATMs are available within the hospital.


Audio/Visual Recording of Patients and Premises

For the privacy and safety of our patients, the hospital prohibits unauthorized use of cameras or recording devices in patient care areas.


Chaplaincy

At LIJ, we will work with you to meet your religious and spiritual needs. Our chaplaincy includes full-time chaplains, who make visits to patients and families upon request. To request a chaplain or rabbi visit, please call (718/516) 470-8693. Religious and spiritual services held in LIJMC’s Meditation Room are noted below:


Catholic Services:

  • Communion Services: Monday – Friday at 12 p.m.
  • Mass: Tuesday, Friday and Sunday at 12 p.m.


Jewish Services:

  • Mincha: Monday – Thursday at 2 p.m.


Muslim Services:

  • A Wudu Room is available daily 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Wudu Room is located in the Zuckerberg Lobby.


Private, individual reflection is available in the Meditation Room at any time.


Electrical Appliances

Electrical appliances including electric razors, hairdryers, fans, clocks, radios or TVs are not permitted in patient rooms. You may only use battery-operated devices.


Fire Safety

Fire drills are held regularly. Please stay in your room until the drill is complete.


Gift Shops and Pharmacy

Vivo Health Marketplace

Location: First floor, near the main elevators


Hours:

Weekdays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturdays: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sundays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.


Vivo Health Pharmacy

Location: Inside the gift shop


Hours:

Weekdays: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturdays: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Closed Sundays


Kosher Meals

We have Bikkur Cholim rooms available for Kosher food storage and emergency meals. These rooms are located off the Zuckerberg lobby on the first floor and on the lower level of Cohen Children’s Medical Center. Detailed information for Jewish Sabbath observers is available upon request.


Language and Communication Access Services (LCAS)

The Center for Equity of Care provides Language and Communication Access Services for people with limited English proficiency (LEP) or people who prefer to have their health information provided in a language other than English. Free medical interpretation and document translation services are available 24/7.


Sign language interpretation services for deaf and hearing-impaired patients, and specific communication tools for speech-impaired patients, are also available. Language Assistance coordinators at each facility provide support and guidance and ensure that our patients’ unique communication needs are met.


Mail

Any flowers and/or packages will be delivered to your room. 


Meditation Room

Our interdenominational Meditation Room is located in the main lobby. Guided meditation is available every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Patients and families are encouraged to participate.


Parking

Parking is available in our parking garage 24 hours a day at reasonable rates. Handicapped parking is located on the second and third levels, near the elevators. We also provide valet. To contact the valet office, call (718) 470-5538. For additional parking information, call LIJ Security at (718) 470-7200.


Personal Items

The hospital cannot be responsible for personal belongings. We encourage you to leave your valuables at home, including jewelry, credit cards and cash. If necessary, a safe is available in our Campus Security Office. If you need to keep personal items such as dentures, eyeglasses or custom appliances with you, please let your nurse or caregivers know.


The hospital is not responsible for lost or broken items unless these items were taken into our care, custody and control. The hospital does not accept responsibility for items of value unless they are stored using the provided envelopes and the receipt is initialed appropriately. If you lose something, please notify your nurse right away. Unclaimed articles are turned in to the Security Department, where they are kept for 30 days. To inquire about lost items, please contact the LIJMC Security Department at (718) 470-7200.


Television

To rent television service, ask questions or report service problems, call TVR Communications 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at ext. 7055. TV service includes a range of basic and premium cable channels. All televisions are closed captioned for the hearing impaired.


pCare/Patient Education

pCare is Northwell’s patient education, communication and entertainment system. pCare is always on and allows patients and their loved ones to use interactive screens on their TV to find helpful hospital information, education and relaxation videos on demand. Just press the MENU button on the pillow speaker/remote. It is free and always available.


Your Room

Long Island Jewish offers private and semi-private nonsmoking rooms. Patients are assigned rooms as they become available. If you request and receive a private room, additional charges, not reimbursed by your insurance company, may apply. Use the remote control devices that are accessible from your bed to raise or lower the lights over your headboard, control your TV, change the position of your bed or call your nurse.


Please do not get out of bed by yourself or leave your room, unless you have your doctor’s permission. If you do get out of bed, make sure the bed is in the lowest position. If you leave your room, please let the nursing staff know where you are. Please do not leave the unit unless you are with a staff member.


Additionally, please do not get in or out of a wheelchair without help. Be sure that the brakes are locked when you are getting out of the wheelchair.
