What Is the Rapid Response Team?

The Rapid Response Team (RRT) is a team of clinicians who bring specialized critical care expertise to the patient. The purpose of the RRT is to ensure that the patient’s medical needs will be addressed before they become critical. When the Rapid Response Team is activated, a team, including a physician, nurse and respiratory therapist, will arrive at a patient’s bedside to quickly assess the patient and provide immediate medical attention. The Rapid Response Team (RRT) can be called 24 hours a day, not just by hospital staff members but by patients or family members in the hospital.

When to Call

  • if there is a change in the patient’s condition that needs immediate attention


Warning signs that a patient is getting worse:


  • change in the heart or respiratory (breathing) rate
  • change in blood pressure
  • very low urine output
  • change in level of consciousness

Where to Call

If a patient, family member or other visitor is in need of emergency help, please dial 22 and tell the operator that you need the Rapid Response Team in Room #________. Then notify the nurse that you have called the Rapid Response Team.
